Haida Feast Bowl, by the artist GLEN RABENA.

This beautiful piece is a hand carved feast bowl in the form of a bird on one side, with wings going along the side of the Bowl, ending up holding a human face in his claws on the other side, very finely carved in shallow and sunk relief, with details incised.

The upper rim is inlaid with Abalone, the individual pieces cut by Glen Rabena. Feast bowls with the Haida were often used to serve candlefish oil, which was eaten as a delicacy and used to soften dried berries. This piece is exceptionally well executed. Carved out of solid Maple wood. A truly masterfully carved and painted piece of Haida art.
