Harper, Charles
Charles Harper is a member of the Kwakwaka’wakw Nation. He started his career in 1974 creating unique Northwest Coast designs.
He gained his inspiration from Lloyd Wadhams Sr., another master carver. Wadhams was taught by Mungo Martin and Willie Seaweed, both very well known and proficient totem pole carvers. Charles also carved totem poles and wood sculptures.
A 20 ft. tall totem pole of Charles’ was commissioned in 1977 and now stands in the Netherlands, proudly representing the Pacific Northwest Coast of Canada. Two of Charles' poles stand in front of Stoney Creek Band Longhouse.
Charles developed his own technique and unique style which expresses his integrity, strength of character and gentle spirit. He favours working with designs of the traditional totems: Orca, Thunderbird, Raven, Bear, Eagle and Hummingbird. He is also widely known for his work in Platinum, gold and sterling silver.
